Christmas cactus? I don't think so...

A while ago I was ill. I wrote this bit around that time and forgot to post it:

Two days ago, after I told Lalo I was ill and was gonna crawl into bed as soon as I got home from work, I also suggested that he could stay later at work. Of course I didn’t mean it and wanted him to come home straight away to take care of me! You know, the way all women talk really… they never mean what they say (uuuhhh….). Anyway, he replied saying ‘Ok, I will go to the gym then, so I’ll see you around 8.30pm’. Shit.
I got a brain wave and I replied ‘No problemo amigo, but please take something nice for me, for your poor ill dutch birdie’. I also added it didn’t need to cost anything, hoping he would get the point that a kiss or an early arrival home would be well appreciated!!

He came home (early) with a beautiful Christmas cactus…

Now, I have to explain you something about our current living situation. Lalo is an amaaaaaaazing guy, who does shopping and cleaning on Saturdays while I’m at work! He always vacuums (I wake up with a zzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz
zzzzzzzzzzzzz
zzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz-noise most of the time hehehehe) and he does the dishes. It sounds like I’m not doing anything…which is actually true now I come to think of it! I tend to cook and do the laundry. But it’s hardly a 50-50 split, is it? Anyway, the point I’m trying to make is that Lalo has problems with two things: cooking rice, and taking care of plants.

When we moved in, I insisted we bought a BIG plant. Later, two smaller ones were smuggled into the house so the big one wouldn’t feel so lonely. Then orchids came and left. One smallie one died. And now there is Mr X-mas Cactus. I feel like I have to get up 30 minutes earlier each day just to take care of the zoo that is living in my apartment!!! Coz these babies need to be taking care off! You can’t just enjoy then until they die, like flowers. Noooooooo… this is a whole different world!!

It gives a total new dimension to the phrase ‘take care you your loved ones’. I think I have to warn Lalo that if he keeps buying me more ‘pets’, he might not get any more lovin’….no time for that anymore! Hihihihi… Or maybe I’ll say more often ‘you can stay longer at work’ and actually mean it this time ;)

Now, 4 weeks later, the cactus has died. How the hell did I manage that? Well, I accidentally drowned it. Mmmm…maybe they should change its name to 'hopefully you'll manage to keep it alive until x-mas' cactus?
